The Walk for Water has been a part of LifeWay’s “Famine Awareness Season” since 2012. In 2011, LifeWay partnered with World Vision to bring change and restoration to the community of Buliisa, Uganda. LifeWay partnered with World Vision because of their proven track record of success in sustainable, whole community development. World Vision works on long term solutions to the challenges that face impoverished communities by working with local community leaders, training local citizens, and empowering children through sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring a child from Uganda please contact Rachel Teodoro here!
Why Water?
To give water is to give life. More than one in six people worldwide – 894 million – don’t have access to sufficient clean water. In Uganda, it is closer to one in every three people are without sufficient clean water. Clean water can cut a community’s child mortality rate in half. It means food for families whose crops are failing due to drought. It saves livestock. It gives parents a powerful way to improve the health, hygiene, and well-being of their children, and enable them to reach their God-given potential.
How many lives can you change?
Just $50 can change a life forever. The Walk for Water is one tangible way that the people of LifeWay can provide for the needs of those in the community of Buliisa, and throughout Uganda. For every $50 raised, we will be providing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for one person through World Vision’s Uganda WASH program.
What Does It Look Like to Walk for Water?
What is Walk for Water? Walk for Water is a stroller-friendly walk along the Tacoma waterfront. We will walk out to a water-filling station, fill our buckets with water and return to the starting place in order to simulate the experience of villagers in Uganda, who often spend hours a day collecting water — water that can make them sick. There is no registration fee for the Walk for Water. However, we encourage individuals, families, and groups to see how many lives they can change by inviting others or through personal fundraising. Any and all donations will be accepted.
- There is also a 5k Fun Run for those who wish to run and then learn more about water issues.
- We walk rain or shine.
- BYOB – Bring Your Own Bucket!
Thanks to our generous sponsors, 100% of LifeWay’s registration fees, T-shirt and jewelry sales, and donations will benefit World Vision’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene projects in Uganda (UWASH).
Join us next year 2016 for what is sure to be another great walk.
Thank you to our 2015 Sponsors
